Heavy rains and flooding – Please help us to buy warm clothes for the girls

Usually the Transmara region welcomes rain for the harvest, after recent times of drought and famine. But due to El Niño, too much rain has resulted in flooding now. The girls are suffering because of the wet and while most are healthy, some are sick and all are in need of warm clothes.
The girls’ smiles are for all to see in the photos (in spite of this adversity) and their spirit is strong but they need our help. Please support our girls for Christmas so we can buy warm clothes for them and they can remain healthy for the New Year:

A community assembly at Tareto Maa

Over 200 women from the Maasai Community in Transmara have vowed to be ambassadors of girl child education among the pastoral community. The women who had converged for a training in Shartuka to sensitize them on dangers of Female Genital Mutilation said they had discovered the power of women empowerment and that they would empower the girl child in their community by fighting for their right to education. Mrs Gladys Kiranto, founder of Tareto Maa Girls Rescue Centre who sponsored the training said women from the Maasai community must rediscover their position in the society and use it to develop their community.

Letters of the children to their sponsors

The girls at Tareto Maa who have an individual sponsor, have written their yearly letter to their personal supporter. During the previous weeks we forwarded these letters to the respective sponsors.
In case you are sponsoring a girl at Tareto Maa but did not receive any news from us, please let us know at: contact@tareto-maa.org.

Continuing to support our girls

We have news about how we are going to continue supporting our girls! Recently, there has been much discussion within the international teams that support Tareto Maa in Kenya, as how best to proceed with the project long-term. Though we still need to discuss many details of our future project coordination, we have decided on a way to proceed now.

The German team will continue to support Tareto Maa with communicating to donors and through fundraising, particularly for the child sponsorship program.

The U.S. chapter is discussing extending its work to support multiple projects involving girls’ empowerment. Since Jackie Adams and the U.S. group will no longer be directly linked with Tareto Maa they will be unable to collect funds on behalf of the organization.

The Austrian team will be restructured and expanded. Gladys Kiranto, who is currently living in Austria will take on more responsibilities in running this. Philippe Aladenise will continue to support our team.

While we are in the process of re-organising our project management, the Tareto Maa Rescue Center is continuing with all its day to day work with the girls. We will now once again start providing you with updates on the girls and the work occurring onsite.

Thank you for your patience and continued support which is greatly appreciated!

Readjusting our ongoing projects

Pardon our dust: Tareto Maa will be taking the next couple months to readjust our ongoing projects and recommit to our mission. Communications will be limited while we focus our time and energies to best serve our girls. After we’ve finished solidifying our strategy for this stage in our growth, we will send an update to brief you on our efforts.

We thank you for your continued support.
