Supporters from Spain

Tareto Maa would like to enthusiastically welcome the newest supporters to our online community, @Todos contra la Mutilacion Genital Femenina (MGF) (translated into English: “All Against female genital mutilation (FGM)” ), and group coordinator, Roberto A. Vienna City Marathon: Successful Fundraiser

On Sunday, Philippe competed in the 21k run. He didn´t improve on last year´s performance due to blisters and cramps, but nonetheless managed to cross the finish line with a time of 2:26. Philippe and his son Fynn (who participated in the kid run one week before) also succeeded in raising 1,790 euro (= 1,900 US-$) which is enough to fund 5 scholarships and buy some school supplies! Thank you, Philippe and Fynn, for your initiative and also thanks to everyone that supported them!

3rd Annual Tareto Maa Fundraiser – Vienna City Marathon

Philippe, from the Austrian chapter and his son, Fynn, are preparing themselves for the 3rd Annual Tareto Maa Fundraiser – Vienna City Marathon.

Two years ago, this charity run brought enough money to send 5 girls to school and last year they raised enough money to sponsor 6 girls’ education. This year, their goal is to raise 2,100 Euro which will not only pay for the school fees of 6 girls, but also for school equipment like school bags, books and pens.

Please show your support by contributing towards this goal: www.betterplace.org/en/fundraising-events/tareto-maa-vcm2015

UNR’s visit: What the students said about Tareto Maa

Tareto Maa is so grateful to have received health services and education from the University of Nevada, Reno (UNR) students who visited Tareto Maa in the end of December and beginning of January.

Below you find testimonials from the UNR students sharing thoughts on their visit to Tareto Maa.

"Tareto Maa is filled with love and happiness. I have never seen so many beautiful smiles or felt more welcome. To be honest, I wish I had never left." - Austin Porsborg

"The work being done by the leaders of Tareto Maa is really inspiring. To see a group of such amazing girls with the highest of spirits together, I would have never known they were rescued from child marriage or FGM. That alone shows Tareto Maa is doing a great job sheltering, empowering, and teaching all of the girls." – Michael Stern (with Katie Ferguson)

"My time at Tareto Maa will always remain a part of me, as it has shown me happiness in its simplest form. Despite the existence of struggle the girls have overcome the hardships of their environment and find true joy in life." - Rachel Waddington

"My stay at Tareto Maa was an experience of a lifetime. In the morning we were woken up by the songs as the girls made their way to the kitchen after the cooks rang the bell. During the hot afternoons we lounged under the shade of trees and talked about anything that came up. Many of them were very excited to be going back to school and they all had high hopes to complete it." - Helen See

Tareto Maa_UNR students visiting_7

We would like to thank Kelly Morning and Think Kindness for their extremely generous donation of 200 shoes to Tareto Maa!! The girls couldn’t wait to wear them on the hike up the mountain (and so many of them scrubbed them clean to make sure they stayed shiny new after returning home).

Many thanks to Professor Gerold Dermid Gray and to the entire crew of UNR for visiting and supporting Tareto Maa!
